Whitey

Today marks the 60th anniversary of Richie Ashburn's debut for the Phillies.  It was April 20, 1948 when the Phillies starting center fielder, who cares about the name, held out and young Ashburn came up from the minors to start.  From that point forward, the rest is history, as they say.  Ashburn soon became loved in centerfield and later in the booth.  Whitey, a nickname for his hair color, now has his own alley in centerfield at Citizens Bank Park and will be honored today for all that he did for the organization.
